Modern Hypnosis & NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
the answer to all your problems
Hypnotherapy Basics
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which responses to suggestions are heightened and insights into the subconscious are gained. Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic application of a state of hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is a natural and effective technique for accessing the subconscious mind – unleashing our potential, changing unwanted habits and behaviours, dealing with trauma and stress and finding solutions to problems and concerns.
Do you often feel upset and want to feel better?
We get upset when we can’t handle situations effectively, e.g. things the boss or friends or loved ones say and do. Wouldn’t you like to change how you react so you end up feeling confident and in control?
How often do you wish you hadn’t or had said/ done this or that?
We often feel guilty in these circumstances, and go over and over them in our minds, which doesn’t help us to change them or ourselves at all.
The real self inside
I believe the real person inside us is the part of us that wants to be happy and have fulfilling relationships, but is often hidden under layers of negative responses and feelings we learned – usually much earlier in life.
Panic attacks & phobias including fear of public speaking
These are painful learned responses (you weren’t born with them!)
and they can be unlearned.
Traumatic memories
Do you go over experiences from the past and feel bad? These can come from an unhappy childhood, an accident or being the victim of a crime or another person’s unkindness. These incidents are mental videos which can be edited so that they don’t FEEL bad anymore and are no more than past experiences you’ve had.
Lack of confidence & low self esteem
If you constantly compare yourself to others and keep nagging yourself about how you think you have failed, of course your self-esteem and confidence will be low. Again these are just negative thinking habits and can be changed.
What modern therapies such as Hypnotherapy and NLP can offer you:
The means to change these negative responses and feelings so we can transform the hindrances to our happiness and self development.
• Anger Management (resolving the causes so you don’t need to feel angry)
• Depression (undoing the thinking and behaviour patterns which support this painful way of being)
• Guilt (we are taught this as a means of control, I help clients undo this pattern)
• Low self-esteem/Lack of confidence (I teach clients to change the negative programming which led to this)
• Panic Attacks (these are learned responses and can be changed)
• Phobias (again, these fears are learned and can be unlearned)
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (if you have been the victim of a crime or an accident or painful childhood experiences and keep having flashbacks, these memories can be de-traumatised
• Bereavement (sometimes people can’t complete the natural mourning process because of painful memories which can be healed)
• Personal Relationships (learning how to get your needs met without arguing)
• Public Speaking (how to give presentations in a calm focussed state)
• Insomnia (I teach ways to calm the fast internal dialogue which stops you relaxing enough to just naturally fall asleep)
• Self-hypnosis (this valuable technique can be easily learned and gives you access to the skills and creative intelligence of the unconscious mind)
• Relaxation (I teach very simple ways of reactivating the relaxation response. This is important because when we are stressed intelligence and performance are significantly lowered)
• Spelling (I teach a very effective strategy for accurate spelling)
Modern Hypnosis & NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
Both of these work by changing the automatic, habitual, negative ways of feeling and reacting, so you can then get in contact with your natural resources and learnings. Talking about problems and getting insight into why we are the way we are does little to change the way we experience the world – even if we try very hard to change. These negative PATTERNS of reacting and feeling need to be changed and modern therapies focus on doing this.
How I work as Hypnotherapist and NLP Practitioner
First there is a short consultation (no charge) which according to your preference can be done over the phone or in person. I will then explain a bit more about how I work, and you can ask any questions you wish, to decide if you want to book sessions. To book this free consultation please phone me on 020 8997 7966 or email julie@juliedeburgh.com
A session starts with you stating what changes you want in feeling or behaving. I then use various appropriate brief therapy techniques to help you make the changes you want. On a subsequent session you feed back the extent of the changes you’ve noticed and we either elaborate on this or go on to the next change you want to make. I do not spend time taking an extended history which I consider unnecessary, in view of the way I work.
My sessions last up to one and a half hours, though may occasionally run over.
